These make a delicious and effective looking Christmas treat, particularly for those not overly fond of dried fruit used in tradition Christmas puddings.
Step 1: Make your choc chip muffins using mini muffin tins
Step 2: Ice with white icing
Step 3: Top with a round red candy such as these chocolate filled orange-chocs (also known as Jaffas)
It’s such a simple yet effective way to turn a regular item such as a muffin, into a Christmassy one. Great for end of year parties and such where you need to “take a plate”.
They look quite effective when many are placed together:
I just love the bright colours of these biscuits. I’ve seen this idea before using boiled lollies inside of biscuit dough frames but not the idea of using life savers.
Ingredients
125g unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup caster sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 2/3 cups plain flour
14 each green, orange and red Lifesaver lollies
Method
1. Place butter and sugar in a small bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add egg and extract. Beat until combined. Transfer mixture to a large bowl.
2. Add flour to butter mixture. Using your hand, mix to form a smooth dough. Turn dough out and shape into a rectangle. Cover and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
3. Roll dough between two sheets of baking paper to form a 20cm x 28cm rectangle. Cut dough into 14 x 4cm wide by 10cm long fingers. Using a 2.5cm round cutter, cut out three holes down the centre of each finger. Place fingers, 3cm apart, on two oven trays lined with baking paper.
4. Cook, one tray at a time, in a moderate oven (180C) for about 10 minutes, or until lightly golden. Place one green, orange and red Lifesaver lolly in holes of each biscuit. Return to oven. Cook for about 3 minutes, or until lollies have melted. Remove and cool on trays.
These are so cute!!! And you could adapt the idea to all kinds of different shapes and colours depending on your occasion.
Ingredients
4 egg whites
1 cup caster sugar
1 tblsp cornflour
Blue food colouring, to tint
Soft eating licorice and mini
M&Ms, to decorate
Method
1. Beat whites in a small bowl with an electric mixer until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, 1 tblsp at a time, beating until dissolved between additions. This process will take about 10 minutes. Beat in cornflour and tint mixture with food colouring.
2. Spoon mixture into a piping bag fitted with a 1cm-fluted nozzle. Pipe 16cm-long snake shapes, 4cm-apart, on oven trays lined with baking paper.
3. To decorate snakes, cut tongues from licorice using a small sharp knife and lightly press into front of meringue heads. Lightly press M&M’s on top of heads for eyes.
4. Cook in a very slow oven (120C) for about 40 minutes, swapping trays halfway through cooking, or until firm to touch. Cool trays in oven with door slightly ajar.
Notes
Snakes can be made one week ahead. Store in an airtight container.
A lot of Candy Craft ideas are quite simple, such as this little Milky Way car posted recently by Planning Queen.
To create your own candy craft, all you really need to do is think about the shapes each type of candy has to offer and use those shapes to create the object of your desire.
A bit like this Candy Car really. Made from a simple Milky Way chocolate bar, 4 smarties for wheels and a tiny teddy for a driver.

I’m all about keeping it simple and these are so simple yet extremely effective!
They make great gifts or as a Christmas table treat/decoration.
Ingredients:
1 packet Arnott’s Royals chocolate biscuits
white chocolate
Jaffa’s
Spearmint leaves or other soft green lolly that can be cut into shape.
How to make:
Melt white chocolate and drizzle over each biscuit. Place a single jaffa and some small pieces of spearmint leaves (cut into smaller leaves) on top. Done! It really is as simple as that!
When making your own candy, a common ingredient is condensed milk. If you don’t have any on hand or would like to cut the cost of your recipe, here is a simple recipe to make your own:
CONDENSED MILK
1 cup dry milk powder
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup boiling water
3 Tbsp margarine
Place, milk powder, sugar and margarine into a bowl. Add boiling water and stir until smooth
Equal to 1 can condensed milk.
I don’t buy condensed milk anymore. When a recipe calls for condensed milk, I simply make my own. It takes all of about 2 minutes, is cheaper and much more convenient.
Making your own Rocky Road is a great candy craft that is simple and makes a great gift.
Here’s how I make my Rocky Road:
Melting Chocolate
Copha
Marshmallows
Raspberry Lollies
Salted Peanuts
Melt chocolate and copha in microwave on medium or over a bowl of steaming water. Add marshmallows, raspberry lollies and salted peanuts to the quantity desired.
I usually keep adding until the chocolate is filled.
Pour into a slice tray and refrigerate.
Some recipes recommend unsalted peanuts but I prefer the combination of chocolate and salted peanuts. It’s divine!!!!
If you’re a fan of coconut, you can also add that. I’m not so I don’t.
It’s as simple as that. Quick and easy to make and a candy craft that’s sure to be a hit as a gift.
Edible necklaces make a very simple candy craft activity. If your kids are anything like mine then they’ll love having something hanging around their neck that they can eat!!!
They are as simple as stringing any candy with a hole in the centre onto a piece of string.
My preferred candy for edible necklaces are Fruit Loops (or a similar product).
“But Fruit Loops are cereal, not candy”, you might say.
In my mind, they’re closer to candy than they are to cereal.
And you can make MANY edible necklaces with one single box.
The bright colors make a fabulous looking necklace and they are easy to handle and relatively mess free (less chance of sticky fingers than with some other types of candy).
Kids love them. It’s a great candy craft activity!
